TDI files against unlicensed company selling health plans

Is Aliera Healthcare Unlicensed?

According to a press release from The Texas Department of Insurance, Aliera Healthcare has been accused of selling thousands of insurance plans to clients in Texas and nationwide without a license.
The article states:

TDI files against unlicensed company selling health plans

The Texas Department of

Insurance (TDI) has filed an action to stop Aliera Healthcare from selling health insurance

in Texas without a state license and engaging in other unlawful conduct.

How many people bought coverage from Aliera?

TDI estimates that Aliera has about 17,000 customers in Texas and 100,000 nationwide.

What happens next?

There is a hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. May 28 in front of a state administrative law judge. The judge will then create a proposal for decision. Aliera and TDI will have a chance to submit additional arguments. The proposal for the decision will then be presented to the Commissioner of Insurance for a final ruling on the matter.

What if an Aliera consumer is having problems getting claims paid?

TDI is asking consumers who have information to share or a complaint to email EnforcementInfo@tdi.texas.gov.

What options are available to consumers looking for new coverage?

You may be able to buy health coverage through your employer or directly from an insurance company. Short-term health plans may provide coverage for up to a year.

Health insurance through HealthCare.gov is typically only available during open enrollment from November 1 through December 15 for coverage to begin in January. You can submit a request online to buy coverage now, and the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services will determine if you meet the qualifications for an exemption.

What are the requirements to be a health-sharing ministry in Texas?

Chapter 1681 of the Insurance Code requirements for a health-sharing ministry include:

  • The organization must be faith-based and nonprofit. Participants must be of similar faith.
  • The organization matches participants who have medical bills with other participants able to help pay those bills.
  • There is no assumption of risk or promise to pay among the participants or the health care sharing ministry.
  • The organization must provide a monthly statement that includes administrative fees and costs to participants.
  • All applications, guidelines and plan cards must clearly indicate that the participant is part of a health care sharing ministry that is not engaging in the business of insurance.

Life Insurance: Overcoming Your Clients Objections

There are many obstacles when it comes to selling Life Insurance. The biggest ones usually come with the objections of clients and their reasoning behind not having a plan. To not only help your client but improve your business, you must understand those objections. By being prepared to rebuttal their reasoning, which can easily have been misinformed, you will need a brush up on the top reasons most Americans don’t have life insurance.

“Life Insurance Is For Old People”

Most people relate Life Insurance with being old and there is a good chance your client is one of those people. We must break down that idea, especially to the younger generations. Life Insurance is for everyone, specifically those who have people they care about and want to protect. With around 17% of the population believing they do not need Life Insurance you must break that stereotype from their mind. Life continues to build up even after someone were to pass away. By explaining that bills won’t stop for a loved one even after they are gone, this might help your client understand the importance of Life Insurance.

Tax-Free Savings

Another way to help your clients understand why Life Insurance is important is its ability to create tax-free savings. Most of us are always putting money aside into a rainy day fund. Why not put it away in a guaranteed policy that will give your kids protection? Life Insurance can not only provide a policy that builds up the more you pay into it, but it’s also tax-free. Explaining the benefit’s of this type of protection can easily perk the ears on any client trying to manage money correctly.

“It Cost Too Much”

” I can’t afford it”. We have all heard this statement in some sort or fashion. 52% of Americans choose not to buy Life Insurance because it involves spending more money. A life policy is often compared to nonessential costs, such as eating out, bar trips, or other forms of entertainment. By cutting out two or three of those costly events each month, you will be able to cover the cost of Life Insurance premiums. There are also different types of Life Insurance that drastically cut the cost down.

‘I Don’t Understand The Policies”

The final argument you might hear is that “I don’t understand it”. This is where you come in. As the agent, it’s your job to make it easier for your client to understand the benefits of Life Insurance. By having a strong list of carriers that are balanced you have the ability to fit your client’s needs. There are new Life policies every year and by finding something flexible for your client, you can help them have the coverage they need.

Got insurance?

Make sure your covered

Week two gas officially began, and with that comes new opportunities to grow my knowledge in the insurance world. I’m new to the industry so my knowledge is seriously lacking. One of the first things I learned when I got here is that there are different plans for Medicare. I simply thought that Medicare was an all-inclusive package deal for senior citizens. I thought it was sort of like Canada’s free health care system. Oh, boy was I wrong.

I’ve learned that just like any other industry, Insurance is really competitive and there are hundreds if not thousands of companies that are competing for you. Companies offer thousands of different products in order to help their company gain popularity/

How can this affect me?

There are a few ways this can positively and negatively affect you. The first being positive because there are so many companies and so many different products that mean you have the best opportunity to get the best price for what you are looking for. However, the downside is due to you getting cheap pricing the company many skimps on some parts of the plan, causing issues further down the line. Finding a specialist with the experience required can be difficult and pricing can always fluctuate based on the experts in your network. That’s where Empower can really help, we can answer questions, and even help guide you through your decision-making process.

Why do I need insurance?

Now that’s all great that I can get pretty good deals on plans, but why do I even need insurance? Before I started working at Empower I always thought that insurance was a good thing to have if you could afford it. Then when I started working at Empower I saw the importance of insurance. Turns out that being covered is just one of those things that you don’t know you need it until you do. Let’s imagine that you have to go to the hospital and need surgery But it’s going to cost $10-thousend. But your insurance will cover it so long as you meet your deductible of $500. Because you’re covered, you saved more than $9-thousend. Without that insurance, you would be out 20x that.

Insurance is complicated, plain and simple. But it’s not impossible to learn, and its something that will take time and energy to learn. Slowly but surely I am getting a better grasp on the insurance industry as a whole and working towards making a positive impact.

Financial Security or Financial Destitution?

Why is Insurance so important?

Another day, another article. In these past few articles, we touched on Medicare, But we never touched on the why. The why is the heart and soul of insurance. Without insurance, you’re stuck with an expensive bill that you cannot financially afford. Ultimately this leads away from the financial security that you’d like to achieve.

Imagine you just got into a massive car accident. You don’t have any type of insurance, neither health or life. You are rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Now, hospitals are required to make sure you are in stable condition before releasing you. But as soon as you are awake and stable; if you can’t pay, you get the boot.

More times than not, “stable condition” does not mean that you are healthy, or even feeling better. It just means that you are no longer in danger of dying due to your injuries.

As many people are quick to point out, the hospital will not kick you out as quickly if you can offer some sort of partial payment. However, often times people who are uninsured do not have the financial ability to hand over hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Furthermore, as an uninsured citizen, you can face other financial hardships with lower-level medical expenses. Even minor expenses such as regular doctor visits or visits for the flu, or other illness, can place a hardship on people with a low income. This may also lead to not seeing a doctor when it is needed.

This alone can cause health issues, with having an illness such as the flu going unchecked. There could be further complications if an illness is not treated or at least monitored by a physician.

Consider your options.

Being insured is simply the best way to go about things. Not only are you covered financially, but you may feel more inclined to visit the doctor regularly to make sure you are in the best possible health.  Insurance can be expensive, but when you look at the pros and cons of spending a few thousand a year for health insurance compared to paying even more without it, insurance seems to make good sense.

There are many plans out there that can fit your unique financial situation and get you the most coverage possible. It’s always best to consult a professional when talking about your insurance needs.
